Blue Howlite is actually a dyed stone! Howlite is normally white with grey veins. It's a rather fragile stone with an open structure (not very hard), this makes it easy to dye. Such a Blue Howlite looks a lot Turquois and is often sold as fake Turquois. Howlite is named after the American geologist who discovered this stone; Mister H. How.

2,5 up to 3,5 on Mohs's scale, so it is very soft and porous. This makes it hard to polish, but
very easy to dye! It is actually also to soft for jewellery, it would scratch in no time.
