Amethyst rough

The rough amethyst found in the Miyu collection is of a dark purple. They are actually a kind of "nuggets", bigger and smaller rocks in a triangular-like shape. Sometimes you can see through the stone, but not very often. Watch out for sunlight! The stones colors will slowly start to fade when placed in bright sunlight to much.

Amethyst Rough is sometimes called Purple Crocodile Stone on the Island Pisces.  Pisces’s crocodiles will grow up to 15 feet and swallow their prey without chewing. Their stomachs are filled with sharp stones that grind everything to a pulp. When the stones lose their sharp edges they spit them out and they are constantly searching for new, rough-edged stones. If a crocodile is chasing you, throw rocks at them!

In ancient Egypt, Greece and the Roman Empire amethyst was used for rings and seals.
The stone is named after the Greek word "amethuein" which means sober, not drunk. People believed that the stone could protect you from getting drunk. Rich people often drank wine out of a special goblet made of amethyst. In the Middle-Ages they used these same goblets to check if the drink someone offered you, was not poisoned. That is because amethyst changes colour when exposed to certain toxics. They also believed that teh stone would make you intelligent and keep you decent. Buddhist monks in India use the stone for meditation.
