| Fun to know: | The name "garnet" comes from the Latin word granatus which means grain, possibly a reference to the punica granatum which means pomegranate, a plant with red seeds similar in shape, size, and color to some garnet crystals. The Romans called the fiery garnet Carbunculus which means glowing coal. The stone of the holy grail (the mysterious goblet or cup from which Jesus drank) was supposedly a garnet. Knights in the Dark Ages often used a garnet in their weapon or shield to guard them from danger. On top that! It was believed to make them invincable. In the boedismn in India the garnet is a sacred stone with the power to enlighten the soul and offer us wisdom. |
